The basic steps necessary to install a network adapter are below. The process of installation depends on the network adapter and the configuration of your computer so the procedure may differ.
Before you begin...
This procedure is recommended for advanced users. This procedure requires the
original Windows installation CD or disks, or Windows system source (cabinet)
files on the computers's hard drive and the instructions and diskettes/drivers that came with your Network Interface Card (NIC). Expedient cannot be held responsible for any
problems with the Windows Network configurations if these items are required but
are not supplied at the time of configuration.
Windows 98/ME
Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
Double click the Network icon.
Click the Add button on the Network Control Panel.
Select Adapter from the Select Network Component Type screen.
Click Add.
On the Select Network Adapters screen, select Have Disk...
Insert the network card manufacturer's floppy in the disk drive and select the A:\ drive from the drop-down menu or locate the path where the manufacturer's files can be found on the hard drive. Click OK.
A list of available drivers will be displayed. Select the appropriate driver from the list and click OK.
Remove floppy from the A:\ drive if used and restart the computer.
Windows XP/2000
Right click My Computer and select Properties.
Select the Hardware tab on the System Properties window.
Click the Device Manager button.
Double click Network adapters or click the [+] to the left of Network adapters to expand the tree.
Highlight the network interface card and select Action -> Uninstall from the menu.
Click OK in the Confirm Device Removal window
Restart the computer.
When the computer restarts: If Windows locates the files and registry entries, the drivers will be reinstalled. If the files or registry entries are not located, the Found New Hardware Wizard will launch.
If the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, click Next.
Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and click Next.
In the Locate Driver Files window, place a check in Specify a location and leave the other options unchecked. Click Next.
Click Browse.
Click the down arrow beside the Look in box and select the drive that contains your Network Interface Card's driver installation program. After the driver is located, select Open.
The installation path for the drivers will appear in the Copy Manufacturer's files from: field. Click OK.
The Driver Files Search Results window and Manafucturer name and model of the Network Interface Card will appear. Click Next.
