FTP Client: Cute FTP

  1. Open CuteFTP. Click the File menu and select Site Manager.

  2. Click the New... button at the bottom of the Site Manager window.

    Note: You may also use the Wizard by clicking the Wizard... button at the bottom of the Site Manager window. Click here for a walkthrough of the wizard.

  3. Enter an appropriate name for the Label for site: - e.g. name of your domain.
  4. Enter your ftp server name into the Host Name/Address: field - e.g., ftp.mydomain.com. Note: Do NOT precede the host with an "http://".
  5. Enter your username and password into the FTP site Username and Password fields respectively.
  6. Leave the FTP site connection port at 21, and the Login type set to Normal.

  7. Click Connect. CuteFTP will connect to the server.

  8. Double click the public_html directory on the right window to change directories.

    To upload files, highlight the files you want to transfer from your local directory (hard drive) on the left to the remote server on the right then click Transfer on the menu and select Upload. You can also click the green "UP" arrow on the menu bar after selecting the file(s), right click the file(s) and select Upload or double click the file(s).

  9. If you need to set permissions on a file, right click the file on the right window and select CHMOD... Select the appropriate permissions or type in the number on the window that comes up and click OK.
