Ati Diagnostic Commands
Query the modem through the modem control panel
Windows 98/ME
- Double click My Computer.
- Double click Control Panel.
- Double click Modems.
- Click on the Diagnostics tab.
- Click on the COM Port that your modem is on.
- Click More Info.
- You should receive a response after a few seconds. Within the response window should should see ATI1, ATI2, ATI3, ... To the right of the ATIx, you will see the information the ATI command returned. Look for any legible words. ATI3 or ATI4 usually report brand names in newer modems. You should also be able to find your modem speed.
Windows XP
- Click Start and go to the Control Panel.
- Click the Phone and Modem Options.
- Click the Modems tab.
- Click the Properties button.
- Click the Diagnostics tab.
- Click Query Modem.
Windows 2000
- Double click My Computer.
- Double click Control Panel.
- Double click Phone and Modem Options.
- Select your modem from the list, then click Properties.
- Click on the Diagnostics tab.
- Click Query Modem.
- You should receive a response after a few seconds. Within the response window should should see ATI1, ATI2, ATI3, ... To the right of the ATIx, you will see the information the ATI command returned. Look for any legible words. ATI3 or ATI4 usually report brand names in newer modems. You should also be able to find your modem speed.
Issuing AT commands directly to the modem
To issue AT commands directly to the modem, you must be in terminal mode
(e.g. Terminal, HyperTerminal). The prefix AT(ATtention) must start each command
except A/ (re-execute last command). Some modems require that AT commands be in
all caps, although most modern modems will accept lower case. Spaces between
commands are not necessary but can be used to improve readability.
