Busies, Voice or Operator or Ring No Answer (RNA)

  • BUSY: Shut down your computer completely. Check the dialing properties of your connection. Make sure the phone number the computer is dialing is correctly displayed in the dialing program. Confirm that the dialing properties specify the correct type of dialing, tone or pulse. See also Error 676: The line is busy.

Did you get a new phone line installed and start getting "Line is busy" errors? If so, the problem may be that the old line had "call waiting" on it, and was disabled in their Expedient connection. Since the new line does not have "call waiting" service, you get the error. To correct the error, take out the code (*70, 1170, 70#) that disables call waiting.

  • FAST BUSY: A fast busy indicates that phone circuits are incapable of accommodating more calls: All circuits busy. Try calling the local access number your modem dials with a handset.

  • VOICE / OPERATOR: Check dialing properties and the local access number being dialed. Try calling the local access number your modem dials with a handset. If you hear a voice or operator, this indicates you are calling a voice line. If there is a Telco (phone company) error message, it could mean that there are problems with the Telco trunks that serve the dial-ups or that there is a Telco network problem. See also Error 678: No Answer

  • RNA (RING NO ANSWER): If you hear a ring when dialing a POP, check the dialing properties of your connection.
