Windows NT Error 5: Access is Denied

The Windows NT Dial-up Networking 5 error, "Access is Denied", is an authentication error and is likely caused by an incorrect username or password or by entering a domain in the "Domain:" field.

  1. On the dial-up login window, type your username and password in lowercase.
  2. Leave the Domain: field blank.
  3. Click OK to dial.

This error will also occur if you do not have the connection configured to accept clear text authentication:

  1. Open Dial-up Networking and select the Phonebook entry for Expedient.
  2. Go to More and select Edit entry...
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Place a tick in Accept any authentication including clear text and click OK.
