Mac OS - Internet Setup Assistant

There are a few different ways to start the Internet Setup Assistant:

  • Method 1: Click the Apple menu, go to Internet Access and choose the Internet Setup Assistant.
  • Method 2: Open your hard drive icon, open the Assistants folder, and double click the Internet Setup Assistant.

Once the Internet Setup Assistant opens, answer Yes to the questions Would you like to setup your computer to use the Internet and Do you already have an Internet account.

On the Introduction screen, click the arrow to advance.

Select your Modem and the correct Port for your modem. If your phone uses pulse (rotary) dialing, make sure you change the option to Pulse. Click the arrow to advance.

Enter your Local Access Number into the first field.

The number should be entered exactly as it needs to be dialed. For example, if you need to dial the area code enter the number as XXX XXX-XXXX, or if you need to dial 9 to get an outside line enter the number as 9, XXX-XXXX. Dashes (-) and spaces are not required.
Enter your username and password into the appropriate fields. Click the arrow to advance.

Expedient does not require a PPP Connect Script when you connect. Choose No and click the right arrow to advance.

Select No when asked if there is an IP address for this configuration. Click the arrow to advance.

Enter your DNS numbers in the first box. Click here for this list of Expedient DNS numbers. Enter expedient.net for the Domain Name. Click the arrow to advance.

Enter your e-mail address in the first box. Enter your email password into the second box. Click the arrow to advance.

Enter your email account: this will be in the form username@mail.expedient.net.
(Note: Some legacy server names will work also. But mail.expedient.net will work for all users.

Enter mail.expedient.net into the box for the SMTP host. Click the arrow to advance.

If you would like to setup your News server, enter your NNTP News Server name, otherwise leave this field blank. Click here for the list of Expedient News Servers. Click the arrow to advance.

Expedient does not use Proxy servers. Click No and click the arrow to advance.

To verify the settings you entered, click the Show Details button. To finish the Setup Assistant, click Go Ahead.
