Outlook Express 5 & 6 - Setup Email

SMTP Auth and SSL

Expedient email may also be configured for SMTP Authentication and SSL encryption for outgoing email. Please note that SMTP Auth and SSL are optional and are not required to use Expedient email.

For further information and setup instructions, see the links below. NOTE: Please configure SMTP Auth or SSL after first configuring your email program for your Expedient email.

  • SMTP Authentication
  • SSL Encryption (outgoing)
  • SSL Encryption (incoming)
  • Return to Outlook Express 5 & 6 main configuration page
Return to main Mail & News page

To configure your Expedient Email account in Outlook Express 5 & 6:

    1. In Outlook Express, go to the Tools menu and select Accounts.

    2. Click the Mail tab. Click the Add button and choose Mail.

Please note: If there are mail accounts for other service providers in the Accounts window that are no longer being used, please remove these accounts so they will not cause problems when sending and receiving Expedient email. If you are still using email accounts for other service providers, we recommend you create a new identity for your Expedient account.

    3. Enter your name in the Display Name field. This is how your name will appear when you send email. Click Next.

    4. Enter the your full email address. Click Next.

    5. The incoming mail protocol is set to POP3 by default. Leave this as it is to download your messages from the server so they are available offline. You can select IMAP to read messages directly on the server, but this is not recommended for most of our customers.

Enter mail.expedient.net into the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server fields. Click Next.

    6. Enter your email username or Expedient email address in the format of username@expedient.net in the Account Name field and your password in the Password field. Usernames and passwords are case sensitive. Do NOT check "Log on using Secure Password Authentication." Click Next.

    7. Click Finish and then click Close to close the Accounts window. Outlook Express is now configured to send and receive email.
