myStargate: Troubleshoot Account Setup
If you see the Account Setup on startup after a re-installation
After an install, MyStargate will start Account Setup automatically. However, if you are reinstalling MyStargate over an existing install and do not need to create a new profile, Account Setup should be disabled.
To disable Account Setup from auto-starting:
- myStargate v2.1.2: Delete the shortcut named "MyStargate Setup" in the menu "Start Menu -> Programs -> Startup".
- myStargate v2.5 or later: Delete the file "C:\Program Files\MyStargate Connection Kit\autorun.txt".
Account Setup does not automatically start after installation
The "auto-start after install" behavior in Account Setup may fail intermittently. The problem may be attributed to having specific programs open and running when installing myStargate. Though this issue should not occur in v2.5 and later, the following steps will launch an account setup script:
- Navigate to My Computer\Internet Connections
- Double-click "Make New Connection"
- Select the "Create New Stargate Configuration".
If the problem persists, check to be sure that "confsvr.exe" is running in the task list (press CTRL+ALT+DEL to launch the task list). If confsvr.exe is running, an installation problem may have occurred.
Error 732: The PPP Negotiation is not Converging / Check the Password Authentication Setting.
Windows XP: Check settings. In the dun connectoid settings, go to the Networking tab, highlight TCP/IP and click Properties. Click Advanced, click the WINS tab. Select Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Try connection again.
You get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error
Please note that our online registration is web-based and is not a part of myStargate software.
This can be caused by a number of issues. Also note that the software does not detect disconnects during the account setup process. If disconnects occur during the process, a “Page cannot be displayed” error will result when navigating to the next screen. Canceling out of the window prompts to confirm exiting and the user is returned to the screen to dial the number. Try resetting the default Internet Explorer Advanced options. Some options can prevent pages from being displayed properly.
- Navigate to "Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Internet Options".
- Click on the tab named "Advanced".
- Click on "Restore Defaults".
- Click on "Apply".
- Click "OK".
- Restart registration if necessary.
If still not functioning properly:
- Check the network control panel. If you have 2 copies of TCP -> Dial-Up Adapter,
- Delete the FIRST instance.
- Click Save.
- Reboot the computer.
If the above steps do not correct the problem, then a Full Uninstall and Re-installation of MyStargate is recommended.
You finish the registration and get "Save As" dialog
This can be caused by settings in the Internet Options that prevent certain content types from being downloaded or displayed. Reset the default Internet Explorer advanced options as follows:
- Navigate to "Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Internet Options".
- Click on the tab named "Advanced".
- Click on "Restore Defaults".
- Click on "Apply".
- Click "OK".
- Restart registration if necessary.
You complete the registration and see an empty phonebook list panel
This is most commonly caused by having the "Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when Browser is Closed" option enabled in the Internet Options control panel. The best solution is to reset the options to default values. Reset the default IE advanced options as follows:
- Navigate to "Start Menu>Settings>Control Panels>Internet Options".
- Click on the tab named "Advanced".
- Click on "Restore Defaults".
- Click on "Apply".
- Click "OK".
- Restart registration if necessary.
Dialing a number to reach an "Outside Line" for toll free registration numbers
It may appear that registration is not properly prepending the outside line number (i.e. "9,") when dialing a toll free number for registration.
The registration dialer uses Windows dialing logic to determine how to dial a number. If the area code you enter and the area code of the number to dial do not match, then the number is considered to be a "long distance" number. Therefore, when the user dials the registration number, myStargate will prepend the field the user enters for "Long Distance Access Code" during setup.
If you needs to dial a number to access an outside line, enter the code in the long distance access field during setup.
After deleting an Outlook Express identity, myStargate can no longer access Outlook Express
If you have set up an existing account through the myStargate wizard then open Outlook Express and delete the Identity that contained the e-mail that myStargate configured, myStargate diagnostics will not find any errors. If you set up the account again using the wizard, it will appear to set the account up properly but Outlook Express will not be configured - that is, the settings will not be entered. Deleting myStargate and Outlook Express then reinstalling does not resolve the issue.
Solution: Use the Outlook Identity Repair Tool. This utility is available in the Support Agent. Open the Support Agent (close Dashboard first), click "Solutions" and click the "Outlook Express Identity Repair Tool" link to execute the program.
