Uninstalling myStargate
Macintosh
Refer to Macintosh Version Installed Files for a list of files that are installed and which need to be uninstalled. Also, see the "Readme" file.
Windows
Two Methods: Quick and Full Uninstall
There are two methods of uninstalling myStargate. The standard method, or Quick Uninstall, generally performs a thorough un-installation.
However, because myStargate creates extra content (database files, shortcuts, etc.) some (harmless) remnants of myStargate may be left after a Quick Uninstall. The more comprehensive procedure for uninstalling myStargate will remove those remnants and is called a "Full Uninstall". Also, see the "Readme" file.
While the Quick Uninstall is suitable for most support procedures, for some support procedures it may be more appropriate to run a "Full Uninstall". The "Full Uninstall" ensures that you have backed up to the cleanest configuration possible.
Quick Uninstall
To perform a Quick Uninstall, choose one of the two following methods:
- Select and run the un-install item in the "Start Menu\Programs\myStargate Connection Kit\" folder.
- After the un-install has finished, you MUST restart.
- or -
- Open the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
- Select the "myStargate Connection Kit" item and click the add/remove button.
- After the un-install has finished, you MUST restart.
Full Uninstall
The Full Uninstall method is useful for restoring to a pristine system. Follow these steps exactly to perform a "Full Uninstall".
- Open the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
- Select the "myStargate Connection Kit" item and click the add/remove button.
- Remove any shortcuts created on the desktop if you have created a myStargate account.
- Look in the "Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\" folder and delete the "myStargate First Setup" shortcut if it exists.
- Reboot.
- After reboot, navigate to the myStargate folder, typically C:\Program Files\myStargate Connection Kit, and delete the whole folder. This will remove any data and content files created by the myStargate client.
- Reboot again.
Note: To fully clean the system, you can delete the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"\Software\Rockstar Software" key in the registry. This is not a necessary step. Warning: Editing the registry incorrectly can cause the computer to stop functioning. If you are not comfortable with this step, please note that this step is optional.

Troubleshooting Uninstallation Issues
Files left over on Quick Uninstall
The Quick Uninstall method will leave some files in the myStargate folder. This should not cause any problems. These remaining files are not deleted by the Uninstall because they are not created by the installer, but by myStargate. One of the folders not deleted in the myStargate directory is the "Data" folder. This is the user database. If you reinstall over the Quick Uninstall, all previous configurations will reappear because the previous "Data" folder will be left intact.
The dangers of not rebooting after Uninstall
Some errors can occur if you reinstall after performing an uninstall but before rebooting. This is due to the way the Uninstaller works. Because some myStargate DLLs are "in use" by the Operating System at the time of uninstall, the uninstaller uses a special method to delete the files. The files are marked for deletion in the "Wininit.ini" file in the Windows System folder and then deleted on the reboot when Windows is in real mode.
Because these shared files are not deleted until the reboot, performing a reinstallation or deleting the myStargate folder before the reboot can cause crashes or freezes.
The dangers of deleting the myStargate folder before rebooting
As stated above, because there are some myStargate files that the Windows operating system has open at the time of Uninstall, deleting the myStargate folder before a reboot after Uninstall may cause a freeze. Always reboot after running the Uninstaller.
Startup item error (Version 2.1.2 only)
The Quick Uninstall does not remove the myStargate First Setup shortcut from the "StartUp" folder in the Start Menu. If you perform a quick uninstall immediately after installation and before creating a profile, this shortcut will exist. You will likely see a "Shortcut not found" error message upon rebooting at this point. It is safe to dismiss the dialog and delete the "myStargate First Setup" shortcut.
Install to default location or cannot uninstall
During the setup, under any OS, if you set a location to install OTHER THAN Program files\Stargate Connection Kit, you cannot uninstall from Add/Remove Programs. If attempted, the following error will occur:
RunDLL
Error loading C:\Progra~1\common~1\install~\engine\6\intel3~1\Ctor.dll. The specified module cannot be found.
If you reinstall to the default installation path, then it will allow you to uninstall, however, once the computer is rebooted, the following error occurs:
Runtime error
C:\Program Files\Stargate Connection kit\bin\reglnf.exe
abnormal program termination.
If you click OK to the error, the following message appears:
Cannot find file C:\Program files\stargate connection kit\bin\consur.exe Make sure the path to the filename is correct and all of the required libraries are available.
Solution: Perform a FULL uninstall (including registry keys) and reinstall to default location.
