Windows XP - PPPoE DSL Connection
Do not install PPPoE (WinPoET) software that was provided with your Expedient DSL service on Windows XP computers. Use the native (built-in) PPPoE.
To configure your DSL/Cable PPPoE connection on Windows XP:
- Open the Control Panel. Click the Network and Internet Connection option, then choose Network Connections. Note: If the Control Panel is in Classic View, double click the Network Connections icon,
- Click the File menu and choose New Connection to start the New Connection Wizard. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next.
- Select Set up my connection manually and click Next.
- Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password. Click Next.
- In the ISP Name field, enter a name for the connection - we recommend using Expedient. Click Next.
- Enter your Username and Password into the appropriate fields. Your username should be in the form of username@dsl.stargate.net or username@expedient.net. Uncheck Turn on the Internet Connection Firewall for this connection. Click Next.
- If you would like an icon to the Expedient connection added to the desktop, select that option. Click Finish to complete the wizard.
To enter DNS numbers:
Open the Control Panel. Click the Network and Internet Connection option, then choose Network Connections. Note: If the Control Panel is in Classic View, double click the Network Connections icon.
- Under LAN or High-Speed Internet, right click Local Area connection and select Properties.
- On the General tab, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
- Select Use the following DNS server addresses. Enter your Expedient DNS servers into the appropriate fields. Click here for the list of Expedient DNS servers.
- Click OK, then OK again.
Note: The LAN connection in Network Connections should be Enabled.
- Close the Network Connections screen. You may need to restart your computer for the new connection to become active.
