Unix Server Information

What Unix operating system does Expedient run?

Expedient webservers run the Sun Solaris 8 operating system. The servers are also regularly updated with any post-release security and performance patches.

What type of hardware is used?

The Expedient webservers are Sun Netra T/1 systems. The Netra is a carrier-grade server designed for high levels of availability. Features include a lights-out management (LOM) module that provides enhanced system monitoring and administration capabilities, dual network ports and mirrored, hot-pluggable SCSI disk drives.

What web server software is used?

The Expedient Unix servers run Apache 1.3.27.

What is suexec and is it used on Expedient's webservers?

The suexec feature of the Apache server permits CGI and SSI programs to run as a user ID other than that of the webserver process UID. The programs will run with the process UID of the site owner. This feature has been enabled on the Expedient servers
