Removing the DirecTV Broadband I-Guy for Dial-up
Some DIRECTV DSL customers may have installed software on their computer as part
of the process to set up their DTV DSL service. The DTV software that is
installed (on Windows systems only) monitors connectivity between the computer,
the proprietary DTV modem (gateway) and the Internet.
To provide a visual status of the level of connectivity, the software
installs the Internet Status Icon (I-Guys) which places an icon in the
computer’s system tray that displays three colors outlining the current level of
connectivity. This icon shows whether the PC has connectivity to the
gateway and Internet along with providing short cuts to system and gateway
information.
Problems
- Icon Status Shows False "Red": The I-Guy only functions with the
DIRECTV Broadband gateway and will show "Red" instead of "Green" or "Yellow"
once the gateway is no longer connected to the computer, falsely indicating that
the computer cannot communicate with the modem.
- Changes Browser Connection Type to LAN on Boot-up: In some instances,
the I-Guy will change the browser settings from dial-up to a LAN connection
every time the computer is powered up. This will prevent the web page from
populating in Internet Explorer with content.
Solution Preventing the I-Guy program from initiating upon boot-up
and changing the browser setting is accomplished by removing I-Guy from the
startup menu.
- Go to Start -> Programs -> Startup
- Right click the I-Guy icon and left click DELETE on the menu
- Reboot the computer
