Check Remote Access Settings

Check Remote Access Settings

Macintosh OS 9: Disable call waiting

Click the Apple menu, go to Control Panels, and open Remote Access. Note: Remote Access is also known as PPP in earlier versions of Mac OS.

Verify your username and password into the Name and Password fields. If you do not want to enter your password each time you connect, choose the option to Save password.

Check your Local Access Number into the Number field.

The number should be entered exactly as it needs to be dialed. For example, if you need to dial the area code enter the number as XXX XXX-XXXX, or if you need to dial 9 to get an outside line enter the number as 9, XXX-XXXX. Dashes (-) and spaces are not required.

Click the Options button and click the Redial tab. Set the Redial option to Off.

Click the Connection tab. Make sure that Use verbose logging is not checked.

The settings under Reminders are optional, but we recommend checking only Flash icon in menu bar while connected.

Click the Protocol tab. Set the Use Protocol to PPP.

The following options should be checked:

  • Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications
  • Allow error correction and compression in modem
  • Use TCP header compression

Click OK.

Check TCP/IP Settings

After you have confirmed your Remote Access settings, you will need to check TCP/IP.

With Remote Access (or PPP) still open, click the Remote Access (or PPP) menu. Choose TCP/IP.

Close TCP/IP and save the changes. Close Remote Access and save the changes.
