No Handshake

If the modem starts to dial, but there are no handshaking tones after the number dials:

  1. Check that the correct number is being dialed and that it is being dialed correctly with the correct number of digits (7, 10, 11), the correct call waiting code if applicabke.

  2. Be sure your modem dialing properties are configured correctly for the type of line service you have - tone or pulse dialing.

  3. Are you hearing an operator message? If so, please refer to Busies, Voice, Operator or Ring No Answer (RNA)

  4. Check the settings of your Network Control Panel, Dial-up Networking properties for the connection, Modem Control panel settings and driver.

  5. If the settings are correct, you may need to uninstall/reinstall Dial-up Networking.
