Configuring the VPN Client

The Heritage Valley Health System (HVHS) VPN client should automatically configure the correct settings on your computer for you. You should not need to make any changes to the configuration after it has initially been setup.

To manually configure the VPN client, go to the Configuration tab and click the Add... button. Enter the following information:

Configuration Reference

VPN Server vpn.stargate.net
VPN Username HVHS-NTusername@hvhs.org
Login Method Shared Key
Shared Secret gohvhs
Authentication Secret gohvhs
Chosen Network Interface Macintosh OS X Only
Dialup Connection ppp0
Ethernet Card en0
Wireless Card en1
NAT Transparency This should be UNCHECKED unless using a cable modem, broadband DSL, proxy, natted traffic, or if receiving errors (other than authentication errors).

When you have entered the settings, click OK.

TIP: To automatically establish a VPN session as soon as the program is opened, check the Auto-Connected to Default when Opened check box on the Configuration tab.

You must now configure the WINS and DNS Servers on your computer.

Making a VPN Connection

Open the VPN client and click the Connect button on the Configuration tab.

Note: If there are multiple login configurations, select the desired login and click the connect button.

Enter gohvhs as the Shared Secret in lowercase.

At the RADIUS Login screen, enter your HVHS password and the Authentication Secret: gohvhs.

When you are connected:

  • Windows: A spinning globe should appear in your system tray.
  • Macintosh: A black dot appears next to the connection in the VPN client

To Close the VPN Connection...

Open (restore) the VPN Client:

Windows - Click the Disconnect button then click the Exit button. Alternate method: Right-click the spinning globe in the system tray and select Exit.

Macintosh - Click the Disconnect button then go to the File menu and select Quit.
