UPMC VPN Client Configuration Main Menu

UPMC employees and affiliates with VPN accounts will have access to the UPMC network and applications such as Sunquest, Medipac, EMPI, Infonet, etc. that they normally use.

UPMC staff members who use an Expedient DSL connection at home have several options for gaining access to their Internet service while traveling. Click here for more information.
The VPN clients can be downloaded, installed and configured quickly. Please follow the appropriate link below. For assistance, please submit your request online, or call us at 1-800-734-3717.

Dial-Up Users
Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP

Broadband users
Windows 2000 , XP Home, and XP Professional Only (UPMC broadband users who have Windows 98, ME, or NT 4.0 must have their operating system updated to Windows 2000 or XP in order to use VPN.)

Attention All UPMC VPN Users
Only UPMC ISD-approved personnel can access the virtual private network (VPN). To apply for access, you will need to contact your department or manager.

Users have the option of adding their machine to the UPMC domain. The benefits of this option are automatic mapping of your M Drive , Microsoft security patches being automatically applied during logon, and you will not be prompted to enter your username and password repeatedly. If you choose to use this option then place a call to the helpdesk (412-647-HELP), identify yourself as a VPN user, and provide the helpdesk with your computer name. You will be contacted by the appropriate support group with more detailed information and instructions.

Expedient extremeDSL users who currently use the WinPoET PPPoE software and desire to log on to the UPMC NT domain must reconfigure their network settings to use a private, static IP address provided by Expedient. The reason is that the WinPoET PPPoE software shuts down when the user logs off of the computer, but the VPN client requires a connection to the Internet before the user logs into the NT domain. A private, static IP will allow the user to connect to the Internet before logging into the NT Domain. This change is not needed to map drives or use other functions of the VPN; it is only needed to log on to the NT domain if the machine is configured to use WinPoET PPPoE software which is required for all Expedient residential DSL products. For configuration and troubleshooting information for Expedient DSL products, click here.

ATTENTION: UPMC Health Plan user accounts are configured by the UPMC Health Plan IT department. Please call 412-454-7600 to activate your service and obtain security credentials. All other users, please follow the instructions below.
